We carry C.R. Plastics Adirondack chairs and patio sets right here in our Kelligrews greenhouse. One of the few places in Newfoundland where you can see and sit in the full range before you commit. Made from recycled plastic and built to handle salt wind, freeze-thaw, and everything else NL throws at a backyard.

We keep a selection of pieces in stock and can order anything from the full catalogue. Pick a colour, pick a style, and we handle the rest.

Hickey's Tip: The catalogue shows all 20+ colours, but seeing them in person makes the choice a lot easier. Drop by and we'll walk you through what is in stock.

What grows well in Newfoundland's climate? +

More than most people expect. NL's climate suits a wide range of perennials, annuals, trees, and shrubs; as long as you choose varieties suited to our short summers, coastal winds, and occasional late frosts. Everything we carry at Hickey's is chosen specifically because it performs here. Our Plant Finder & Gardening Guide is built entirely around NL conditions and will point you in the right direction.

When should I start planting in Newfoundland? +

Most outdoor planting in NL is safe after the last frost..that is typically late May to early June, depending on your area. Cold-tolerant vegetables like kale and lettuce can go in earlier, sometimes mid-May. Perennials and trees can be planted as soon as the ground is workable. When in doubt, our staff are happy to tell you exactly what's ready to go in the ground right now, call or drop in.

Where do your plants come from? +

Our plants are sourced from trusted Canadian growers and selected specifically for Newfoundland's growing conditions. Our hanging baskets and many of our annuals and perennials are grown right here at our Dunville production greenhouse. This means they're already acclimatized to NL weather before they ever reach your garden.

Do you carry plants that are safe for pets? +

Pet safety is one of the most common questions we get. Our Plant Finder draws on ASPCA Animal Poison Control data ; ask "Is [plant name] safe for dogs?" or "What pet-safe plants work in shade?" and it'll give you a straight answer. When in doubt, always confirm with our staff before purchasing.

Does your stock change throughout the season? +

Yes, availability changes regularly as new shipments arrive and popular items sell out. Our Plant Finder reflects current inventory, but stock moves fast. If you don't see what you're looking for, call us at 709-834-5525 or stop in; we may have it, or be able to tell you when it's coming in.

Do you do custom planters and floral arrangements? +

Yes to both. Custom planters are designed in-store with your space, style, and budget in mind. Drop by and our staff will put something together for you. For fresh or everlasting floral arrangements, call or email us to discuss what you need and we'll take care of the rest. We do arrangements for all occasions including birthdays, sympathy, and weddings.

Can I order patio furniture if I don't see what I want in store? +

Absolutely. We carry C.R. Plastics furniture in store and can order anything from their full catalogue. C.R. Plastics is made in Canada from recycled materials and built to handle NL weather. Browse options through the digital catalogue or call us to place a custom order.
