At Hickey's, we stand behind everything we grow and sell. Our goal is always to send you home with healthy plants and the knowledge to keep them that way. Here's what you need to know about caring for your new plants and our guarantee if something doesn't go as planned.
Basic Plant Care
Watering
All plants need adequate water; not too much, not too little. Check the soil regularly. Water when the top inch feels dry.
Sunlight
Full sun plants need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Full shade plants should be kept out of direct afternoon sun. If you're unsure what your plant needs, ask us before you leave—we're always happy to help.
Planting Trees & Shrubs
Plant in well-prepared soil enriched with organic matter such as bone meal or compost. Do not apply chemical fertilizer to trees or shrubs within the first calendar year. Once planted, avoid moving them. Transplanting significantly reduces survival rates.
NL Climate Tips
Newfoundland's weather can be unpredictable. Plant after the risk of frost has passed, protect new plants from strong winds, and mulch around the base of trees and shrubs to retain moisture through our short growing season.
Our Guarantee
We guarantee that all plants sold by Hickey's Greenhouses are in healthy condition at the time of sale. To make a claim under any guarantee, your original paid invoice or receipt is required. The failed plant must also be available for inspection by our staff.

No guarantee. Special orders are not subject to any discounts or promotions.
Giftware & Homewares
30-day return or exchange. Manufacturer warranty applies where applicable.
Christmas Items
No exchanges or refunds after December 6.
Trees & Shrubs: One Year Guarantee
Trees and shrubs that have received reasonable standard care are covered for one full year from the date of purchase. If your tree or shrub does not survive that year we will replace it. If it was overwintered during that period, the replacement is subject to 50% of the original purchase price.
This guarantee does not apply if:
- The tree or shrub was not planted in the ground,
- It was grown under an overhang,
- It was damaged by an act of God including wind exceeding 140km/h, lightning, hail, freezing rain or prolonged drought, and/or,
- It was transplanted after being originally planted.
